Italian contemporary photography: a research journey
Moria De Zen, photographer and art director, is an Italian author of a refined sensibility. Graduating with honours, she did visual studies on advertising communication and photography at the prestigiuos NABA (New Fine Arts Academy) in Milan. She then continued her studies in London where she lived for two years, an experiences which contributed to define her professional imprinting. Careful to training and research, she constantly follows the theorethical and practical evolution of her cultural and contemporary universe. On her return to Italy she worked independently with advertising agencies and companies on a wide range of commercial and advertising assignments where is recognisable a subtle artistic vein. In 2003 she set up and runs her own advertising agency and photography studio. In the same year, with the work I bambini di Amman (The Children of Amman, 2003), she began to formally exhibit her work, to which follows other exhibitions such us Evoke (2007) and the portfolio Insight (2010), exhibited within a serie of shows organized in several parts of Italy and at the 14° Festival of Lishui in China (2011). Main collective exhibitions are: Volontariamente – Voluntarily – (Milan, Rome, Orvieto, Padua, 2012), Humankind (The powerHouse Arena, New York, 2010); Acqua Aria Fuoco Terra – Water Air Fire Earth – by National Geographic Magazine (Exposition Palace, Rome, 2008). Her work has also been exhibited in international photography festivals including: Orvietofotografia (Oriveto, 2012, 2011, 2010), the Italian Pavilion of the 14th Photography Art Festival of Lishui at Zhejiang in China (2011), Padova Aprile Fotografia (Padua, 2011), Fotografia Europea (Reggio Emilia, 2010), the only Italian date of the Festival Matières Sensibles of Lille (Milan, 2009) under the “Mois de la Photographie”, FotoGrafia (Rome, 2008, 2007). A constant and reasoned exhibition activity in which prevail research and reportage.
Moria has dedicated her life to images. Photography is her life, her world, the language she has chosen to express herself which point out a visual connotation that generates a remarkable iconographic narrative style as well as a stimulating linguistic validity. She’s a high-profile artist, extremely talented, eclectic, versatile; a true professional of images, technically very prepared. A free and introverted spirit. She loves nature and is a careful and rigorous observer of the contexts which in turn investigates. Her passion for photography constantly stimulates her to explore new artistic territories and new expressive dimensions, that she learns during her frequent journeys in Italy and abroad as well as through study. She’s attracted and fascinated by the “relationship” that developes between the photographer and the person photographed, an invisible “something”, unique and unrepeatable, that only “they” can live and tell. Moria may be a photographer by trade but often she does it also for herself. She investigates to investigate herself. She studies to study herself. The artist does not give up working for herself when she feels the need to do so or mature intimate artistic need related to her Self and her Being dimension. She’s blessed with charming, refined ways, is careful and sensitive, moves with balance and measure.
She has received awards and honorable mentions in international photographic competitions including: Master Cup (2011), PX3 (Prix de la Photographie, 2011), IPA (International Photography Awards, 2010), FIOF Professional Photography Award (2009, 2010, 2011), Premiofotografico (2009). In 2011 and 2012 she was assistant for Enrico Bossan, interviewer and senior editor for the blog e-photoreview.com, involved in the development and launch of the enricobossanmasterclass.com project. She teaches photography language and techniques in courses and workshops, some of which directly created by herself while others assigned within educational programs. She dedicates herself to personal research projects, portraiture and reportage on the edge between social and documentary photography. She is represented by Galleria Gallerati of Rome; she currently lives and works in Treviso in Italy.

Fotografia italiana contemporanea: un percorso di ricerca
Autrice veneta di raffinata sensibilità, fotografa e art director, studia arti visive, pubblicità e fotografia al NABA (Nuova Accademia delle belle Arti) di Milano dove si diploma con Lode. Prosegue la sua formazione a Londra dove rimane due anni e matura esperienze che contribuiscono a definire il suo imprinting professionale. Attenta all’aggiornamento e alla ricerca, segue costantemente l’evolversi teorico e pratico del proprio universo culturale e contemporaneo. Tornata in Italia, collabora con agenzie di pubblicità e aziende svolgendo in proprio molti lavori commerciali e pubblicitari in cui è riconoscibile una sottile vena artistica. Nel 2003 fonda una propria agenzia di comunicazione integrata che dirige di persona. Contemporaneamente inizia l’attività espositiva con la mostra I bambini di Amman (2003), alla quale segue la mostra personale Evoke (2007) e il portfolio Insight (2010) collocato nell’ambito di una serie di allestimenti organizzati in più parti d’Italia e in Cina al 14° Festival di Lishui (2011); da segnalare ancora: Volontariamente (Milano, Roma, Orvieto, Padova, 2012), Humankind (The powerHouse Arena, New York, 2010); Acqua Aria Fuoco Terra, della rivista National Geographic (Palazzo delle Esposizioni, Roma, 2008). Ha inoltre partecipato a festival nazionali e internazionali, tra i quali: Orvietofotografia (2012, 2011, 2010), Padiglione Italia del 14° Festival di Arte Fotografica di Lishui a Zhejiang in Cina (2011), Padova Aprile Fotografia (2011), Fotografia Europea di Reggio Emilia (2010), l’unico appuntamento italiano (Milano) del Festival Matières Sensibles di Lille (2009) nell’ambito del “Mois de la Photographie”, FotoGrafia di Roma (2008, 2007). Un’attività espositiva costante e ragionata nella quale prevalgono la ricerca e il reportage.
La fotografia è la sua vita, il suo mondo, il linguaggio che ha scelto per esprimersi che evidenzia una connotazione la cui declinazione di fondo genera una cifra stilistica di notevole narratività iconografica di stimolante validità linguistica. È un’artista di alto profilo, eclettica, versatile, una vera professionista dell’immagine tecnicamente molto preparata. E’ uno spirito libero e introverso. Ama la natura ed è una osservatrice attenta e rigorosa dei contesti che di volta in volta indaga. La passione per la fotografia la stimola continuamente ad esplorare nuovi territori artistici e inedite dimensioni espressive, che apprende durante i frequenti viaggi in Italia e nel mondo, oltre che attraverso lo studio. È attratta e affascinata dal “rapporto” che si instaura tra chi fotografa e chi è fotografato, un “quid” invisibile unico e irripetibile, che solo “loro” possono vivere e raccontare. Fotografa per esigenze di lavoro, ma di frequente anche per sé. Indaga per indagarsi. Studia per studiarsi. L’autrice non rinuncia a lavorare per se stessa quando sente il bisogno di farlo o maturano intime esigenze espressive legate al proprio Io e alla propria dimensione di essere. Dotata di modi e comportamenti femminili fascinosi, è attenta e sensibile, si muove con equilibrio e misura.
Ottiene riconoscimenti in concorsi fotografici nazionali ed internazionali tra cui: Master Cup (2011), PX3 (Prix de la Photographie – 2011), IPA (International Photography Awards – 2010), FIOF Professional Photography Award (2011, 2010, 2009), Premiofotografico (2009). Nel 2011 e 2012 è assistente di Enrico Bossan, intervistatrice e senior editor per il blog e-photoreview.com, lavora alla realizzazione e lancio del progetto enricobossanmasterclass.com. Tiene corsi e workshop di tecnica e linguaggio della fotografia dei quali alcuni ideati direttamente dall’autrice, mentre altri assegnati all’interno di programmi formativi. Si dedica a progetti di ricerca personale, di ritratto e di reportage tra il sociale e il documentario. E’ rappresentata dalla Galleria Gallerati di Roma; attualmente vive e lavora a Treviso.
